JL Roberts is a queer trans writer, psychologist, and activist born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, now living in southern California. They are an alumnus of Oberlin College, and hold a graduate degree in Developmental Psychology from UMass Amherst. JL is active in the queer youth community, leads youth and adult workshops on intersectionality & art as activism. JL has competed in poetry slams at the national level, and placed 4th overall at the 2017 Women of the World Poetry Slam competition. JL’s work has been published in Rattle and Tasteful Rude, and in video form on YouTube with SlamFind, PSI, and Button Poetry. JL is the founder of Giovanni’s Room, a grassroots writing organization that centers marginalized identities and aims to radically reimagine community spaces and relationships.
